CRUSADER Game Rating Commentary

"In my opinion, this game is quick and fun besides recreating the free-for-all, don't know who or what will get hit next that the Crusader battle was reported have been. Lines do not exist nor does doing damage at one location prevent your opponent from doing damage in another area. You are constantly shuttling your best units back and forth trying to prevent a crisis while maintaining some pressure. From my reading of the historical accounts, this is what happened, lots of battles here and there, with almost total confusion on both sides, clearly not one of Rommel's better days. This type of game will not appeal to everyone who likes control, precision, and nice neat battle lines. As doing something, anything will expose you to risk; there is too much territory and too few troops."

"I felt that Dean threw the baby out with the bathwater when he steered this game away from "OCS-Lite." The game does not impart to me any sense of Crusader."

"My rating would have been higher I hadn't purchased Gazala first. The maps, counters and OOB are excellent, but the game is missing certain details that Gazala has that would make the game better. I am hoping for a retrofit of the Gazala rules to Crusader. Then the game will become first rate. I actually am going to delve into Crusader first to get a hang of the game system then move onto Gazala."

"Normally a big fan of Gamers SCS, but this left me cold. I do not think that the system works so smoothly at this scale. Painstaking Axis set up, only to see everything get smashed to pieces in the British first turn. Disappointed with this particular game, but as I said earlier the system normally produces the goods."

"Nice little game. Lots of armor action with some room to move. Excellent graphics on both map and counters. Some nice touches on the rules. Good game to play."
