LOS GRINGOS Game Rating Commentary

Groovy, Dude
3.10

"Entertaining package on otherwise neglected topic. Situations aren't exactly balanced but game has good combination of fun/realism with relatively clean and simple system. It's encouraged me to purchase one of the references he's listed. A real disappointment was the map quality (cf AGN from Perry Moore for DTP map that is indistinguishable from boxed game map...) and Berg's subsequent lack of reaction to this disappointment when voiced on Kranz' web site."

"Simple, fun and quick! Nice history. Never done before."

"Good solid effort in an interesting period. Game mechanics are simple yet inclusive of the challenges facing the combatants. And several of the battles are both fun and replayable. A great value."

"I enjoy the the non-linear turn sequence as it adds the elements of suspense and doubt. The period also deserves more attention than it has recieved. The only distraction in the entire game is the graphics which could be better done even in DTP."

"Lots of variability in the battles makes replay value high, so you get more bang for the buck...and Berg makes pretty good maps."

"Fast-moving, simple mechanics. The old "turn continuation table" of GBACW fame (that always gave me fits) evolved into a die-roll that effectively captures the command advantage the US player has. US units are not always significantly better than their Mexican counterparts. Games go quickly and seem to capture the flavor of the period. Very enjoyable."
