"Finally, a small scale Napoleonic game that won't give you a headache while playing. Markham has set out to produce a system that provides great feel, yet is intuitive enough so that play flows rather quickly. Several innovative concepts are presented here, including initiative card plays, just one side moving per turn, and a smooth morale tracking system. The graphic appeal of this dtp game is solid, and it mercifully has partially die-cut, mounted counters. Unfortunately, as the first title of a projected series, VIMEIRO has some significant birthing pains with its rules (too many oversights/unclear areas). For that reason, I'm rating the game as 'Groovy, Dude'. Otherwise, I'd give it an easy 'Most Excellent' rating for the gaming potential that it holds. A slam-bang, fighting player's game from start to finish. I've spent a lot of time with VIMEIRO, and have enjoyed every minute. The designer has indeed met most of his intended goals--I eagerly look forward to future volumes."
"As A DTP effort, it does what it can but if you compare it to the usual GMT-Gamers-CoA; it has a long way to go in development in graphics etc. Still, it's the first in a series and is indeed promising for the long haul. It can be playable in an evening which is something convenient for those with not much time. The mechanics are intricate but simple, in that they are easy to learn but you have a myriad of choices of play whether it's card, command or formation moves. I liked it and want to play it again."
"Rules are very simple but to the extent of leading to tons of questions. However, system shows a lot of promise and is worth sticking with. Has the potential to be 'Most Excellent'."
"An excellent, playable Napoleonics system on a subject near and dear to me, the Peninsular War. An interesting system which keeps you guessing and punishes you for making mistakes, but which is simple enough to understand almost instantly while maintaining the general flavor of the period."
"This is a great design. Another wonderful DTP product from Rob Markham. Little known (and rarely gamed) battle of Wellington's on the Peninsula. Neat mechanics. Die cut counters. Highly replayable."
"Expensive for what you get (a DTP game), could have spent the money on a "real" game. Only plus point is the rarity of the subject, only game I know on this battle."
