World in Flames Deluxe + Modules (ADG)
Wacht Am Rhein (SPI) |
|
Biography
|
|
I have been gaming since I was 12 (which at my current level of
maturity makes it about 6 months)during which I have played a
ton of different games (it's been a busy 6 months). Most of my
time lately has been spent playing WiF (it is Tuesday, so it must
be WiF Deluxe) with some Macro Panzer Leader. I am looking forward
to returning to my old stomping ground and harassing those I haven't
seen in quite some time. |
|
MonsterGame.CON

I selected WiF because regardless of which version I still love
the game. I have been playing for years and I still don't have
a clue. |

Enemy at the Gates (Gamers)
Playtest Games: Guderian's Blitzkrieg II and Beyond the Rhein
(Gamers) |
|
Biography
|
|
Historical board wargamer since early 1960's.
Playtester for all recent OCS games from The Gamers. |
|
MonsterGame.CON
|
|
Enemy at the Gates requires at least four players experienced
in the OCS system. The local gaming group normally does not have
four players and we usually don't have the space because an OCs
playtest game is already setup.
I will act as OCS rules "umpire" for MonsterGame.CON, unless Dean
Essig is present (he is presently scheduled to be overseas). Most
likely Tony and I will bring one or two OCS playtest games (Guderian's
Blitzkrieg II and Beyond the Rhein) as they are both large and
work best with at least four players.
I really hope to meet more experienced OCS players so we can have
a good game. A novice to the OCS system is better served playing
one of the smaller scenarios rather than jump directly into a
large campaign as I plan to pursue. |

War in Europe (DG/SPI)
Three Days of Gettysburg, 2nd Ed. (GMT) |
|
Biography
|
|
I am 47 years old and I work for a small internet company. I have
been gaming since 1971 when a friend at college introduced me
to Richtoffen's War. I wish I had more time to play the big games
and MonsterGame.CON sounds like the perfect opportunity to do
so. I have attended a dozen or so Origins starting with #1 back
in 1975 and have attended Avaloncon/WBC since 1995. Looking forward
to getting trounced at the end of May, see you then. |
|
MonsterGame.CON
|
|
I've switched my gaming preference from La Bataille to War in
Europe since the former was not garnering enough interest. My
second choice is 3DoG. I haven't played 3 Days yet, but own a
copy. I have played TSS and others in the GBACW series, so I have
a reasonable feel for the play of the game. I will again study
the rules and solitaire a scenario or two before the con. |

Korsun Pocket (PWG)
This Terrible Sound (Gamers) |
|
Biography
|
|
Hi! I've been gaming off-and-on since '69. Love monster games.
Haven't played many in the past couple decades as work (the Army)
and family (wife and daughter) have demanded most of my time. |
|
MonsterGame.CON
|
|
Korsun Pocket was/is my favorite game of all time. I played it
a LOT...20 years ago! Don't remember much of the rules, etc, but
am trying to make the time to refamiliarize myself. I'm more interested
in the history than the mechanics/victory conditions of games
and am easy to get along with (not a First Sergeant anymore <g>).
Can't wait to put faces to names from ConsimWorld and am greatly
looking forward to meeting everyone. |

Special Event: Clash of Eagles Sneak Peek (May 25-26) |
|
Biography
|
|
I began playing wargames in the 1960s when my father played them
while serving in SAC missile silos to pass the time. I spent the
1970s playing monster games, everything from the original La Bataille
series (which I playtested) to SPI monsters (Highway to the Reich,
Next War et al). I designed my first game "The Cossacks Are Coming!"
eighteen years ago. Since that time I've designed "Gazala: Clash
of Armor" (PWG), "Lodz: First Blitzkrieg" (3W), "Race for Tunis
(3W), "To the Wolf's Lair" (PWG with Gary Helmer) "Duel for Kharkov"
(PWG with Jack Radey),"Home Before the Leaves Fall" (COA), "Lodz
1914" (MiH) and the upcoming "Clash of Eagles." I have also contributed
to more than a dozen other games, including my personal favorite,
"For Whom The Bell Tolls" (GRD). When I'm not playing board wargames,
I produce television documentaries for Studio Miramar in San Francisco.
I have a grown son who is a web designer. |
|
MonsterGame.CON
|
|
I must confess that I'm not coming to play games per se as much
as I am coming to interact with people that play monster games,
a life-long interest of mine. If anyone is playing one of my games,
I'll be glad to answer questions and kibbitz. I will also have
playtest maps and counters for "Clash of Eagles" the east front
counterpart to "Home Before The Leaves Fall." I look forward to
seeing old friends, making new ones and consuming some of the
fine tequila that resides in Tempe. |

I started playing wargames with AH's Gettysburg 2nd ed. back in
third grade. In 1975 I saw Europa for the first time and got hooked
on monster games. But serving in the Navy kept my playing time
to a minimum. I retired from the Navy, bought a big house, have
a great job that gives me the freedom to do these conventions
and now have time and room to set these big games up. |

I started playing the EFS last year and have fallen in love with
the system. Having someone to play against makes it even better.
I have played all but Typhoon, both sides and most scenarios.
I am excited about playing the entire front with several players
for both sides, will make an interesting game. I picked TLD second
because this has been my favorite since it came out. I have played
this game the most of all my games, against several people as
the only german and as the allied both US and Brit. I like almost
all aspects of this game and have seen both sides win. I look
forward to meeting new players, learning the games better and
just having a great time. |

Picked Vietnam since there seems to be another person who is definitely
interested in the game. My experience with the game is meager,
to say the least, I've solitared about 3-4 game turns with the
campaign game. As you know, this game is not really suited for
solitare play. To do it justice, you really need a face to face
setting.
I picked Wellington's Victory as a second choice because I think
it's a great game. Played it twice before many years ago, lost
once and won once, wouldn't mind trying it again, to break the
tie, so to speak....Looking forward to meeting fellow gamers! |

Totaler Krieg (Decision)
EuroFront (Columbia Games) |
|
Biography
|
|
Forty two years old and counting, I should probably know better.
I'm single, and work as a computer programmer / systems engineer
at the "hot fusion" Joint European Torus facility in Oxfordshire,
although my degree is in astronomy. My first board wargame was
American Civil War, the issue game with S&T43, and I am still
at it twenty something years later. These days I get most of my
competetive play with "Euros", but wargames still appeal to me. |
|
MonsterGame.CON

Totaller Krieg! is the biggest game that I have serious experience
with, having been suckered into sitting down and playing a home-brewed
playtest version with Ananda Gupta at the last ever Avaloncon.
Blame him. I have soloed several games, enough to understand the
flow of the game. I haven't been following the Further Development
threads though. Classic TK! for me.
I own several of the Eurofront block games, although I haven't
played them. Before the con would be a good time to rectify that,
if only solitaire. |

Have played WV several times and am very familiar with it. I am
hoping that someone else will pick it as a first choice too. I
would rather play that game as a commander and lose than another
as a "Northern Front Wing Leader" and win. I also want to meet
lots of other gamers, to share replays and observations of games.
And see some of the newer games, have someone experienced explain
the rules, to judge if I would enjoy the game also before buying
it. |

DAK (Gamers)

Biography
|
|
I am 33 years old, married, no kids but three cats and a big dog.
Both my wife and I are attorneys in rural southwestern Virginia.
This will be our first time "out west" and we both are looking
forward to it. I have been gaming since high school with "Squad
Leader" and Yaquinto's "Panzer/88/Armor" being my first games.
I game mostly solitaire so I will be easily trounced by anyone
with any experience. |
|
MonsterGame.CON
|
|
I chose Vietnam as my first choice (even though I don't think
I will get to play it) because of an interest in the topic and,
more particularly, the game itself. The integration of the political
and military aspects of the war makes this game an under-appreciated
gem and I am dying to play the full campaign to watch it work.
I have only played scenarios, and those only solitaire, so I am
looking for a novice or someone to show me the ropes.
I chose DAK as my second choice because of the subject matter
and a long desire to learn how to play the OCS games properly.
I have only solitaired the smaller scenarios with the 2.0i rules
once or twice, so I am looking for someone new to the OCS series
or a veteran who will take pity on me.
I hope to come away from the convention with some new gaming friends
and some great memories of playing these big games. |

I've picked Summer Storm as my first choice, because I think the
system best captures the chaos of control of the Civil War; the
design is elegant--although the rules are sometimes problematic.
I'd love the opportunity to play this game as meant to be played,
as a free wheeling Op/Game. I've been playing SumStm since shortly
after it came out, and believe I've got a firm grasp on the systems.
I'm looking forward to the people and the gaming, in that order. |

I am 32, started gaming in 1980 and kept up with the hobby as

games, then moved on to WW2 tactical (ASL and Panzer/88/Armor),
then air games (Air War, Kights of the Air, Fighting Wings & Canvas
Falcons, and finally Birds of Prey. Also, for the last 10 years
I have been working on a nice Pacific carrier/naval game, and
it is nearly done. |

I own both Totaler Krieg! & Pacific War. I played Krieg once and
very much enjoyed it, and I have owned Pacific War but never played
it, which I regret since it got rave reviews. My first monster
game was PWG's Cossacks are Coming, and I accepted the fact that
I would always have to play them solo. I had switched to tactical
games to find opponents due to their instant gratification factor
& easy victory conditions (wipe the other guy off the map). Still,
I miss the monsters. It's been a few years, but recently I played
Gamers OCS Tunisia and liked it a lot (and did well), and look
forward to making sweeping manuevers. I also played Columbia's
Front series, but have found that they often need more developement
before repeated playing, someing Krieg does _not_ suffer from.
I missed Paths of Glory the first time but look forward to it's
immenent rerelease. |

I'm more of a WW2 gamer, but as I have other engagements for Sunday
morning and afternoon I chose a couple of team-style games so
that the other players could keep going without me for a while.
I've played quite a bit of This Hallowed Ground, but my experience
with This Terrible Sound is rather limited. |

Long-time boardgamer, currently living in Cupertino but lived

EFS, Paths of Glory, and anything by Columbia, but I've played
a huge variety of games from train games to eurogames to wargames.
Have had game reviews published in Counter, Sumo, and the Strategist.
Long-time die-hard ASL player, although haven't played in a while
now. |

Have some modest experience with OCS, having played many scenarios
over the past year and having just finished my first campaign,
of Sicily (at HomerCon west). Since hopefully I'll get my EFS
fix in at GMT GamesDay, I'm looking forward to doing some more
OCS here! Failing that, I'm a huge fan of everything Columbia
makes, including primarily the Front games, so that's my second
choice. I have played EastFront a number of times, and I've played
all of Columbia's games a lot. |

This Hallowed Ground (Gamers)
Summer Storm (COA) |
|
Biography
|
|
I'm a 50ish amateur historian & prolific wargame collector, primarily
on two campaigns: The Battle of Gettysburg and the East Front
in WWII. I own ~40 different games on the former and 140+ on the
latter. I have also built a wonderful library on both. For circumstantial
reasons, I've done more playing and reading on the former -- as
well as have visited the battlefield multiple times. But, truthfully,
I've held my game-playing and reading in check in favor of my
career interests during my adult life, having only recently loosened
up and tried to carve a regular place in my leisure time activities
to pursue these passions on an on-going basis. Recently, I've
become somewhat enamored with the Pacific Theatre in WWII, as
well, and have begun seriously collecting games on that subject.
I hope to publish something on the Battle of Gettysburg within
the next 5-10 years. |
|
MonsterGame.CON
|
|
"This Hallowed Ground" is my first choice because a friend of
mine and I studied it pretty seriously two years ago and compiled
a decent set of notes on it. I also like the support The Gamers
give their games. "Summer Storm" is my second choice primarily
because I know its designer, Rick Barber, and can get good support
for this game, as well. I also chose it because all my study of
THG will serve me in good stead here, as well. I also own the
complete set of Bachelder's maps and all sorts of other references
on Gettysburg, in addition to having walked (& talked!) the battlefield
many, many times. So playing one of these games should be playing
to my strength.
As I've hinted, I don't have all that much gaming experience,
and therefore want to position myself for (and believe this will
be) a winning experience. |

I began D&Ding when I was a cherub, which is Northwestern's summer
program for high school students. When I went to college, I found
some other people on the floor who did gaming. I remember playing
my first game of Victory in the Pacific on the fourtieth anniversery
of Pearl Harbor. I lost by a POC.
I met my wife at Duckon (DUpage County KONvention) which is a
science fiction convention. I was on the board of directors and
ran the gaming department. I'm an engineer, having spent nine
years with Motorola. I design chips, mostly mixed circuit (analog

I'm working on a gigabit ethernet chip. We've done some CDMA chips

HttR - Have both editions, last played about 12 years ago but
the game system is simple to pick up again. I like the design

Looking forward to playing either German or Allied and I would
like for the Allies to have some kind of modified DZ, mix & match
serials as I played a few historical drops that were German victories.
TLD - Last played about 8 years ago. Like HttR, the game system
is easy. I'm like to play Allied but being Germans will be okay
too. I like how the supply system works, having to save up and
move supplies to the front. I'd like to see a house rule about
the coastal artillery and Para HQ replacements for this event. |

Biography

I grew up playing Panzerblitz, Panzerleader, USN, PGG and others
in the mid-Seventies. I bought War in the Pacific, and DNO/Unentshieden,
but never was able to find an opponent interested in monster games.
I drifted away from board gaming when I went off to college, although
I never completely lost interest. Now at the age of 40, and employeed
as an engineer for Naval Aviation, the desire for boardgaming
is burning strong again. |
|
MonsterGame.CON

My primary interest is WWII operational gaming, particularly on
the East Front. I am very impressed with the Gamers OCS, and getting
to play either EatG or DAK would be a joy. I will likely bring
a copy of Sicily, if someone wants to play a pickup game. Highway
to the Reich was always one of those games which intrigued me,
so I'd love to give that one a spin. However, I am quite inexperienced
with all the games, so I have no expectations of getting into
a game with The Masters. I am also willing to pinch hit in most
any of the other games if an opponent is needed, because my interests
also include the American Civil War, Napoleonics, WWI and ancients...as
long as someone would be patient enough to teach me the rules. |
