Line of Departure and The Gamers Net Form Online Parternship |
Press Release issued 1 July 1999
Jim Werbaneth, publisher and editor of Line of Departure wargame quarterly, announces that his magazine is entering into a strategic partnership with The Gamers Net , one of the preeminent wargaming web sites. This comes days after the announcement that Line of Departure was nominated for a Charles S. Roberts Award as best amateur wargaming magazine of 1998.
"I am extremely proud and pleased to work closely with the staff of The Gamers Net," Werbaneth said. "This promises an unprecedented tight, interdependent relationship between print and online media for the wargamer. That it involves an organization with The Gamers Net's high standards of excellence makes this a special honor."
Line of Departure has been in publication for nearly eight years, presenting board and computer game reviews, analysis, scenarios, variants and news. Since 1997, it has operated as an adjunct the OnLine of Departure web site, at http://members.aol.com/jwerbaneth/lod/lod.html. This carries links, a comprehensive article list, and purchase information. In addition, from early 1998 it has presented OnLine of Departure Support, a page with scenarios and other support files for computer games, available for free download.
Werbaneth states that Line of Departure will retain its independence and continue as a print magazine. "The cooperative venture with The Gamers Net will reach out to new readers with unique material, while being true to the loyal ones who have long supported the magazine. The material in the print edition and on the web will support and augment each other at times, as is the case now with OnLine of Departure, but there will be no duplication. I see only growth and increased quality for all in the future."
