 Advanced CIVILIZATION

A total of thirteen responses were received, with ADVANCED CIVILIZATION getting the clear nod as the better game. We did accept commentaries which included the computer version, not just the standard boardgame version. Some select commentaries follow:

"ADVANCED CIV opens up some interesting new strategies that I like. Some of the new disasters are interesting." - Jim Lawler

"The ADVANCED CIV rules changes make the game more varied (eg. more civ cards) and removes some of the artifical limitations from the original game (eg. never buy cheap civ cards because of the 11 card limit)." - Jens Hoppe

"Advanced gives the player more choices rather than taking a "single path" to victory. Some of the advances have negative attributes so if you really want to be a conqueror by researching military for example, be prepared to accept the consequences." - Jim Kayer

"ADVANCED CIV did add some graphic and AI improvements, but the "piling on" of new unit types, buildings, and wonders made the game lose some of its focus. By adding more details, the point of the game became more blurred. I prefer ORIGINAL CIV." - Alan Emrich

"ORIGINAL CIV awarded good play and forced decisions. The current version just awards those that aren't hit by the side effects of other players calamities. Not to mention the old method of card trading was much more rewarding." - Corey Hymer
