Perry Moore has now released his latest DTP effort, ARMY GROUP NORTH, as reported in "Designer Perry Moore Seeks Publisher for AGN" (9/22/98). The 17" x 22" map (designed by Joe Youst) depicting the Riga area is striking; befitting of a professionally-produced title. The game covers the Russian entrapment of the German 16th and 18th armies and the German counterattack.
This is a new design with revolutionary new rules. For example, units have no movement ratings (this factor is dependent upon their parent HQ). The combat class value can change from turn to turn due to combat losses or replacements. The point of ground attacks are also designated by "Main Sectors" - coinciding with the targeting of artillery barrage attacks.
The game setting begins on 11 July 1944, with the huge 25 mile gap between the 3rd Pz Army and 16th Army and the Russians racing towards Tuckums. The game scale is regiment/division (some battalions), each turn is 2 days, from mid-July to September. Each hex is about 6 miles. The short scenario covers the week long attempt of the Russians to breakthrough to Riga from September 14-25.
