November 2, 1998 - ConsimWorld.COM Exclusive PrePub Offer
PrePub Price Extended on GR/D STORM OVER SCANDINAVIA

Game Research/Design is pleased to offer the following exclusive offer for ConsimWorld.COM members only!

STORM OVER SCANDINAVIA comes complete with nine map sections covering Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. The centerpiece of this new release is the re-issuing of NARVIK, long considered a collector's item and highly-playable title from the EUROPA Series. This release ties into GRAND EUROPA by providing state-of-the-art Order of Battle information on Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish armed forces from 1939 to 1945, and German Northern Theater armed forces from 1940 to 1943. Five countersheets (1,400 counters) cover the entire theater of war.

The following games and scenarios are included in STORM OVER SCANDINAVIA:

Narvik
This is an intense combined arms game. Germany has an overwhelming array of ground, sea and air forces for the invasion. The Allies have time and space on their side. While they can not stand toe to toe with the Germans, they can cause a lot of trouble; they can win the game. This is the second most popular EUROPA Series game ever produced. It has a very even play balance and offers unending variations.

Storm Over Scandinavia
The code name of the invasion: "Weserubung". It started out as a junior officer and high command war game. A "what-if" scenario on how to invade Norway. It ended up as a full-blown, multi-corps invasion on the even of Germany's attack on France. The Europa level invasion of Norway. The combined arms are also present. The unit and time scales are at EUROPA levels.

The Four Hour War
Germany invades Denmark. Will the Danes resist (that would make it a Five Hour War)? Germany used Denmark as a stepping stone to Norway. Germany had to have a perfect invasion of Denmark to ensure a chance of success against Norway. If you choose to play this scenario, as the Germans, good luck. It is an eye-popping special ops gamble. If you lose as the Germans, no easy invasion for Norway.

Northern Theater of Operations (NTO)
NTO Combines Weserubung and A WINTER WAR. It begins with the Soviet attack against Finland. The western Allies may intervene to aid Finland. To do so they must transit through Norway. Norway may disagree with this and the Germans may intervene to prevent the Allied intervention. Makes your head hurt, don't it? Ownership of A WINTER WAR (currently available from GR/D) is required for this scenario.

Invasion Sweden
No tour of Scandinavia is complete without a visit to sunny Sweden, right? Well, why would the Germans invade Sweden? To prevent them from helping Norway? Maybe. To ensure a flow of iron ore to Germany? Perhaps. Because they can? Why not. Germany decided against this invasion, but now you have the option of testing out such an invasion in this scenario.

More about the EUROPA SERIES and Game Research/Design
The largest war in history is the subject of the largest and most comprehensive wargame project undertaken: All of World War II in Europe, North Africa, and the Near East at divisional level with semi-monthly turns and a scale of 16 miles per hex. Using a common game system and interlocking maps, each game is playable separately or as a link in the full Europa series of games. This award winning series of games has been played since the 1974 release of DRANG NACH OSTEN (now FIRE IN THE EAST), designed and produced by Frank Chadwick and Rich Banner.

DRANG NACH OSTEN was immediately accepted by military history enthusiasts and gamers. Each subsequent title built on that acceptance and created a cadre of people who play and participate in the series to this day. They formed a company called Game Designers' Workshop. From that first design came the games that covered the rest of the European, Mediterranean, and African theaters.

In 1985 a company was formed to support this game series. John Astell, the principle designer of the series, and Winston Hamilton, a developer and designer of WWII games, formed Game Research/Design, a company committed to the enhancement of Europa. They produced a set of accessories dedicated to the games. They also began a newsletter that became the magazine, Europa. In 1989 GDW transferred the copyrights and trademark of Europa to GR/D.

In 1990 GR/D decided to reissue all the games in the Europa series, originally published by Game Designer's Workshop. This new generation of Europa is called the "Collector Series." This next generation of games presents the latest declassified information from the archives of the major power and adds new dimensions and enhancement to the series. All the mapping of the series is being redone as well. Very impressive.

Game titles in this series include: FIRE IN THE EAST, SCORCHED EARTH, FIRST TO FIGHT, A WINTER WAR, BALKAN FRONT, SECOND FRONT, FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS, NARVIK and WAR IN THE DESERT. NARVIK has been out-of-print for some time as mentioned above, so there is much anticipation with its upcoming release in STORM OVER SCANDINAVIA.
