Moments in History and Ted Raicer Team Up

Moments in History (Critical Hit, Inc.) and Ted Raicer Team Up to Tackle World War One
New publication schedule includes several game titles, including past Microgame Co-op DTP release.

"Mr. WWI" IS BACK!"
Several New Games for Moments in History from Award-Winning Designer Ted Raicer!

Ted Raicer has certainly returned to designing wargames with a bang. The six times winner of a Charles S. Roberts Award (incl. a "Best Game" Award for MiH´s ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT?) has agreed to do no less than three new World War I games for Moments in History.

Ted has already finished designing ROYAL TANK CORPS - THE BATTLE FOR CAMBRAI, 1917. This is an area movement game (one full-sized map) to capture the ebb and flow of this battle elegantly. Raicer commented: "It is a faster-playing To The Green Fields Beyond without the bookkeeping." The Battle of Cambrai is a very interesting situation for wargamers. Lots of tanks are involved and both sides have opportunities to attack and defend. Look for ROYAL TANK CORPS this summer.

In addition, Ted is busy working on GRAND ILLUSION: THE 1914 CAMPAIGN IN THE WEST. This two map game uses innovative yet simple rules for movement and combat, including chit drawing and covers the 1914 campaign in the west from August to at least November. The base unit is the divsion and complexity is moderate. MiH aims to release the game late this year.

Next year, the GRAND ILLUSION system will move to the east - THE 1914 CAMPAIGN IN THE EAST. Using a different scale, this game will simulate the events at this front, incl. East Prussia (Tannenberg, Masurian Lakes), Poland (Warsaw, Lodz), Galicia and even Serbia.

Finally, expect to see a second edition of the (almost) sold out ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT? (Campaign in the West, March-November 1918) soon.

In related news, Moments in History recently announced the acquisition of YPRES: 1915 from The Microgame Co-op, for future publication rights. The game will appear under the new title "IN FLANDERS FIELDS."

The Situation
At 5:00 PM, April 22, 1915, the Germans released the first gas cloud on the Western Front against an Algerian and a French Territorial division. Those who survived the immediate effects of the gas panicked and fled creating a four mile wide gap in the Ypres salient. The only available troops to fill this gap were a handful of Canadian and British reserves. The ensuing fight for control of the salient, known as the Second Battle of Ypres, continued over the next few days. On May 1, the Allies decided to withdraw to a smaller, less tenuous perimeter around the city.

The Game
IN FLANDERS FIELDS is a quick-playing operational level simulation of the Second Battle of Ypres which took place in April and May 1915. The game is intended for two players, one taking each side, but is well suited for solitaire play. The focus of this game is on regimental infantry tactics. Combat is separated into the three distinct stages of barrage, defensive fire and melee, giving players a glimpse of what was happening in each battle.

IN FLANDERS FIELDS is an updated professional edition of Kerry Anderson´s DTP game "YPRES: 1915". Order of Battle and rules have been modified and the map has been enlarged from 11" x 17" to 17" x 22".

James C. Gordon wrote on Ypres: 1915 in Paper Wars #28, page 5: "The game sets up quickly and the turns move along quickly, depending on the number of individual attacks conducted on any given turn. Both sides can win or lose the battle through their own bad planning or mismanagement of resources. I give it a thumbs up, particularly for gamers (like myself) who prefer the smaller and faster games over mega-map thousand-counter designs."

Game Features
* One full color 17" x 22" map
* 280 full color die-cut counters
* One Rules Booklet
* Player Aid Cards

Complexity: Low to Moderate
Solitaire Suitability: Good

Game Designer: Kerry Anderson

IN FLANDERS FIELDS is MiH´s third World War I release after the award-winning
ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT? and LODZ 1914.
