Enemy Action: Ardennes Preorder

Preorder from Compass Games. Enemy Action: Ardennes is a new series of card-driven war games on pivotal military operations and campaigns in the twentieth century. John Butterfield’s unique card-driven mechanic allows players to use multiple resources in multiple ways but each decision has a consequence, many of which aren’t evident at the time. The game portrays the German offensive against the western Allies in December 1944 — the Battle of the Bulge. Each player controls the German or Allied side. When playing solo, the game system controls the other side. So Enemy Action: Ardennes is effectively three games in one box: the two-player game, solitaire playing the Allies, and solitaire playing the Germans. Preorder Price: $85 (save $30). Special offer: Preorder for only $69 until end of January!

Medina de Rioseco Preorder

Preorder from Compass Games. Medina de Rioseco is the sixth game in the Eagles of the Empire series, and is a stand-alone add-in battle to Spanish Eagles (Talavera, 27th and 28th of July 1809, and Albuera, 16th of May 1811) and is completely playable by itself. Medina de Rioseco features both a historical and alternative battle that allows players to recreate the engagement as it was fought or to bring in additional Spanish forces available but not present at the battle. Preorder Price: $27 (save $8).

Nations in Arms: Valmy to Waterloo Preorder

Preorder from Compass Games. Nations in Arms: Valmy to Waterloo uses a extensively updated, modified and streamlined version of the Le Grand Empire game system from Pratzen Editions (that game covered the 1800-1815 time period). The game systems emphasize the military importance of lines of communication, the command and control ability of skilled leaders, quality of troops above quantity, and the impact of battle, epic sieges and attrition on a nation. Preorder Price: $85 (save $35).

The trick, at least from my point of view is to remember to LOOK AHEAD several turns. There are some nasty things on their for the Germans and if you don’t plan for them you’re in trouble.
