Hi everyone!
I want to begin today with a shout-out to our art department. As you'll note when you check out the Tentative Production Schedule late in this update, our art department just sent NINE items to the Printer. Some months you guys only see one or two games go to the printer, but Mark Simonitch, Charlie Kibler, and Rodger MacGowan - and the many fine artists who work with them - are always working away in the background, creating more great-looking components for our games. So this time they've given you guys a ton of new games to look forward to in just a few months. Check those out, and raise a glass to one of the jewels in the GMT Crown: Our Art Department!

This is an especially busy work week here at the GMT offices, as we're prepping to host over 100 gamers starting in two more days at our 37th(!) GMT Weekend at the Warehouse event. I think past attendees are going to be a bit surprised at the spacious warehouse configuration (we have more space now!) that our fine office and warehouse folks have been working long hours to prepare for them.
This twice-yearly event is a favorite of mine, not just because we host it here at GMT's "home base," but because it's such a great time to renew friendships and welcome new attendees to the family of Weekend at the Warehouse Warriors. I also get to meet with numerous designers and developers, and am very much looking forward this time to getting a first-hand look at several new game designs as well as assessing progress on games already in our design pipeline. Our friends from Playdek will be here again this time, so I'm sure I will also get a detailed update on the various projects we have in the works with them.
A note on digital while I'm thinking of it. I don't have a digital update section in today's update. It's not that I'm ignoring you digital players, I just don't have new information from either Playdek or HexWar that I can share TODAY (Keep your eyes peeled for an announcement later in the week, though!). Hopefully we can have more detailed news for you on those fronts in May.
We have lots of cool new information to share with you at this time, including a very clever new P500 game from Brad Johnson and Wray Ferrell, plus some reprints, a mounted map for Normandy '44, and a 3" deep Space Empires box going up on our P500 list. We also have a bunch of new games in from a couple of our overseas design/distribution partners, Cérigo and Kuro Neko, that I think you'll find interesting and fun. And be sure to check out our How to Play videos below, as we now have outstanding teaching videos for both Sekigahara and Dominant Species: Marine. We'll get to all that in just a bit.
But first, with my "long-time wargamer" hat on, I'd like to point you to a couple of articles that I think you wargamers especially will really enjoy. The first is from InsideGMT. It's called General Eisenhower's Armchair: How War Becomes a Game, by Jared Alexander. Jared's article really connects with my wargamer roots, with a lot of the reasons that I personally enjoy wargames. His description of the Metropolitan Wargamers "bunker" and the people that play games there makes me wish we had a similar place in our city. And his descriptions of how and why people play these type of games had me nodding my head throughout and feeling a little nostalgic for the days when I had a lot more free time to play wargames. Jared, if you're reading this, thanks for taking the time to write that article. It was REALLY well done, and very much appreciated. Thanks!
The second article link that I'd like to share today is a recent article from Dr. James Lacey in War on the Rocks. Dr. Lacey is the Professor of Strategic Studies at the Marine Corps War College. You may remember that we had advertised an event at the Marine War College in early April that utilized several of our Next War series games for training, and that Mitch Land was attending to help facilitate. Dr. Lacey's article focuses on that event. It is part After-Action Report, with great details and pictures of Marine Corps officers and instructors playing a full-blown Global War scenario in Europe, Taiwan, and Korea. But it's also a fascinating look into the mindsets of players as they wrestle with operational and strategic issues, and into the thought processes of an instructor who sees wargaming as a crucial professional exercise to allow mid-high-level officers to grapple with strategic decision-making. This article was fascinating to me, and it made me really proud that we have created something that our professional military finds useful as a teaching tool. I think you'll enjoy it, too. Thanks for writing it, Dr. Lacey!

Now let's move on to the rest of today's news....

An Interesting New Game from Richard Berg and the team at Kuro Neko Designs. The Dragon and the Cross is Richard Berg's new game from our friends at Kuro Neko. It covers the Rise and Fall of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom from 1851-1868. It features a beautiful map and counters, as well as solid history on a period that we don't see many wargames cover. The copies we have in stock have rules in both Mandarin and English. We have 100 copies in stock, so get yours soon if you want one. New Dice for Commands & Colors Medieval. We have a surprise for our C&C Medieval players: custom dice at no extra cost! Tony has found us some really nice custom dice for C&C Medieval to replace the planned stickered dice approach we've used in our other C&C games. They are 18mm, rounded corner, and laser printed. So no dice stickering this time! Here's a peek at the custom dice:
If you C&C fans like these dice as much as we anticipate, we'll work on making sets available as limited P500 items for our other C&C games in the near future.

Upcoming Game Photography Workshop. For those of you attending the GMT Weekend at the Warehouse this coming weekend, please remember that professional photographer Scott Mansfield will be hosting a Photography workshop to help us all take better game photos at 1 pm on Saturday. Note, too, that Scott is planning to video the workshop so that we can make it available later online for those of you who can't attend the Weekend.
