Hi everyone!

I hope your summers are off to a good start and you're getting to spend plenty of leisure hours playing games. We're in between P500 shipments here at the office/warehouse, so our awesome workers are using the time to finish up our warehouse re-organization and streamlining. Tony Curtis was here this week to help with that - and to continue his yearly (and very popular) practice of taking the whole crew to lunch at their favorite Chinese restaurant!

Convention season is upon us. We'll have several GMT principals and design team members at a variety of conventions this summer. The biggest ones are GenCon (where we'll have a small and unofficial presence along with our friends at Playdek) and WBC, where Tony Curtis and Andy Lewis will show the GMT flag, assisted by many volunteers (thank you!).

The next convention for us is next week: the CSW Expo in Tempe. My son Luke, Mark Simonitch, and I will be the core GMT presence there, and we'll have 15-20 designers/developers there as well testing and showing off various games. We're looking forward to seeing a few hundred of you at the event!

For those of you attending CSW Expo who want to get a peek at Mr. President, we'll be testing it from Monday through Thursday in the same room we've been in for the past few years. And of course you're all invited to the GMT seminar on Tuesday night, where we'll have some new and updated information about several of our upcoming games.

Chad Jensen. Most of you have probably heard already or read online that late last month, Chad Jensen was diagnosed with late-stage cancer. It's not my place to share too many details, but it's Stage 4 and very serious; he is in a battle for his life. Mary and I went up to Santa Rosa to visit him in the hospital recently, and he was very tired, but determined and in great spirits. As you might imagine, the combination of the cancer itself and what is by necessity a very aggressive treatment regimen is exhausting. But we got great news this week, as after his first two rounds of chemo and 26 days in the hospital, Chad got to go home! Of course, there is still a long road of chemo and treatment ahead, but we're so happy to see Chad getting to get out of the hospital and be back in his own home, and wanted to share that with you. Here's a pic from his Facebook page:

I want to encourage each of you to help and encourage Chad in whatever way you can as he fights this battle. So specifically, what can you do? Any of the following that you'd feel comfortable doing would be most helpful:

  • First, please join us in fervently praying for Chad and his recovery. Please share this with any prayer groups that you are a part of.
  • If you'd like to help defray some of their medical expenses, which are going to be significant, please consider donating through the GoFundMe account that has been set up for them - and share that link with others who might like to help. They've just met their original funding goal this week, but chemo and extended hospital stays are very expensive, so if you are able to help out, all your assistance is most appreciated.
  • Let Chad and Kai know of your concern and support.  If you'd like to send Chad a note of appreciation or encouragement, you can leave a note on the GoFundMe page or on Chad's Facebook page, or for private email,  please send through Kai for now at kaijensen@gmtgames.com.

Thank you all so much for your kindness, consideration, and encouragement during this trying time. Chad and Kai are family to us. I know that they both really appreciate all of your prayers, donations, and encouragement - and the outpouring of love and appreciation that they've seen from the gaming community already.

------------
It feels really strange and almost trivial to come back to talking about games after sharing about Chad's battle. But this is a company update, and we do have several other things that we want you to know about. I'm going to keep it brief in this portion of the update, but please be sure to check out all the sections below, as we have several new P500 additions, some major updates to the Production Queue, some nice Sneak Peeks, Charging and shipping details for our next releases, and more!

------------
Combat Commander Reprints in Production Queue! For those who've been waiting patiently (or not!) for Combat Commander: Pacific reprint, Tony has squirreled away enough funds to get THAT AND ALL SIX Combat Commander Battle Packs (including the Stalingrad and Sea Lion Reprint Editions that we're adding to the P500 Reprint list today) into the Print Queue. They're in the art department now getting final tweaks, but they should be off to the printer rather quickly. Won't be long now!

------------
Upgrade to the Great Battles of Alexander, Expanded Deluxe Edition, 2nd Printing. When we added this to the P500 Reprint list last month, we neglected to let you know that we are adding the contents (counters, maps, scenarios) of the out of print Tyrant module to the package at no extra cost. Check out the GBoA Deluxe Edition P500 Reprint page for all the details. Enjoy!

Digital Fort Sumter - BEAUTIFUL job from our friends at Playdek! I just want to publicly thank our friends at Playdek for creating such a beautiful and engaging digital version of Mark Herman's Fort Sumter. It's perfect for a few quick solo games at lunch or during your work commute and really easy to use against a human opponent. I play it a lot on Steam and my iPad (it works on iPhones too - as long as it's iOS10 or above) and am just really impressed with the job Playdek has done with this one. If you want a fast-playing, challenging gem on your PC, Mac, phone, or tablet, check this one out.

New P500 AdditionsWe have three new P500 additions this month, as well as three reprints. To get more details on each of the items listed below or to Pre-order, just click on the banner or box to go to the game's P500 page.

La Grande Battles: C&C Napoleonics Expansion #7We know that you Commands & Colors: Napoleonics players have been waiting for the expansion that will let you play out large Napoleonic battles! Well, your time has come! But "you can play big battles" doesn't even begin to cover what's in this huge expansion. Le Grande Battles, EPIC engagements, new Iconic Commander benefits, mounted and unmounted mapboards, more Leader of Honor blocks and unit blocks, lots of counters, and (at least) 20 new scenarios. And there's more! Click banner above to get to the P500 page with all the details and order today!

No Retreat Battles: 1942Carl Paradis' No Retreat series has been one of our most popular game series over recent years. As most of you know, No Retreat is a theater-level series with games on the Russian Front, North Africa, Italy, France & Poland, and the late-war Western Front. Now, Carl is tweaking the series a bit to bring you some of the most interesting battles of WWII (some still large campaigns in their own right). In No Retreat Battles, Carl is including 3-6 battles per package, all from a given year of WWII. He's starting with 1942, where you'll get to play Gazala, Guadalcanal, Stalingrad, Velikiye Luki, and a solitaire version of Dieppe! Click the banner above to get to the P500 page with full details and order today!

Storm Over Asia A World at War players - rejoice! Designer Bruce Harper has created a Pacific theater Prequel to A World at War! Below is a peek at the game map. Click the banner above to get to the P500 page with all the details and order today!

New P500 Reprint Additions. We are adding three new P500 Reprint items to our list this time. Note that these reprints are the same as previous versions, with any know errata corrected. These three are all already in our production queue for the coming months, so we are offering them mostly to give customers a chance to get them at the P500 discount. Enjoy!

Combat Commander BP 2: Stalingrad, 3rd Printing

Combat Comander BP 6: Sea Lion, 2nd Printing

Twilight Struggle Deluxe Edition, 7th Printing

------------

Here is a brief tease for P500 additions lining up in the coming months. Note that this is not a comprehensive list, so I will switch these up a bit from month to month. My hint from a few months back of "Something new for Commands & Colors players" referred to this month's new La Grande Battles expansion for C&C Napoleonics. Last month's hint of "A new 20th-century strategic game" referred to this month's new Storm Over Asia. Over the coming 1-6 months, I anticipate that we will add:
  • A new Lunchtime Series game
  • A new strategic-level block game
  • A new 4-player CDG on a very interesting topic
  • Something new for those of you who like WWI games
  • A new GBoH series game

Update from Gary Weis at Playdek

Hello everyone! We are wrapping up an update for Fort Sumter now. There was a clarification from Mark Herman about how a few cards were supposed to work, so we're making those changes in this update, along with a few other bug fixes and some improvements to the AI player.

While we continue to address improvements to gameplay and plan to make further progress on the AI in Fort Sumter, we're moving progress forward on Labyrinth as well. We'll be expanding the beta test pool this week, so if you volunteered to help previously but weren't selected, please keep an eye on your email for instructions for how you can join the test group. We have a few improvements to the rules implementation coming in a new build. Our next steps should include a first pass at an interactive tutorial, as well as starting on the AI player. Thanks for your feedback as we continue to move forward with this project! - Gary

As noted previously, we're now giving you the status of a game inside our system in these updates with a general estimate of what that means in terms of months until release. For very near-term games, those estimates are going to be very accurate. For the games just going into the art department or nearly there, we are giving you a range of times. Each month you will be able to follow progress as games get added and moved between pre-art, the art department, and the printer.

Project Updates

Banish the Snakes - Designer Kevin McPartland

I’ve been meaning to post more pictures of some of the cards and explain a little bit about gameplay. So here it goes! Here is a sampling of six typical cards (Note this is Playtest Art):

The top left card, Benignus of Armagh Converts, is from an event during St. Patrick’s time (that was important enough to have been recorded by the chronicle writers). As the flavor text at the bottom shows, an important young man, the son of a chieftain, converted to Christianity. The historic outcome is most likely- it is covered by two of the five slots, yelow and green- the Chief also converts. But the outcome can be better or worse, depending on the indicator on the key card.

The top center card brings a Gift of the Holy Spirit into play- I will discuss these later. Each level of this card allows for more selection and flexibility in what Gift is brought into play.

The top right card is a “save” card- note that it has not indicator arrow on the right edge because the drawing player gets to keep this card. Note that depending on the key card, in the future you might get to re-roll two die rolls or only one.

The bottom left card is another “save” card. With this one, you get to temporarily stop the results of a future Slave Raid card (there are three of those in the deck). Patrick's letter to the Soldiers of Coroticus, asking them to return the good people that they carried off in a slave raid, is one of only two documents written by Patrick that have survived. In fact, it's one of the few documents surviving from this time period at all. We have no idea if the letter was historically successful.

The bottom center card is a nice effect, and the level of the key card determines the criteria that must be met to allow to the card to take effect. Note that at the lowest level, it is difficult to meet the standards, and the card often has no effect.

Finally, the bottom right card simulates the effect of a historically great chieftain, who became High King of Ireland. It simply shuffles the leadership of northern Ireland and the kingship. Sometimes this is helpful to the players, but often it is not!

I hope you enjoyed this little tour; let me know if you have any questions. - Kevin

MBT 4CMBG Expansion - Designer Jim Day

The Canadians are advancing on to publication. Design/development is now complete and the expansion is now in the hands of the playtesters. That is scheduled for completion on 6/30/2019. - Jim

------------
Mr. President - Designer Gene Billingsley

The base design is now complete! I have now handed the project off to Developer Mike Bertucelli for additional testing and development. He and his core test team have set up a digital version of the game to facilitate testing, which should speed the process considerably. I'm sure we'll hear from Mike over the coming weeks/months as he is ready to broaden the group of testers.

I'm not completely out of the picture at this point. I'm still responding to Mike's queries and making design adjustments weekly, as is common at this stage of a design project. This coming week in Tempe at CSW Expo, I'll be overseeing physical testing with some of my core playtesters as well as anyone who wants to drop in and play for a while. If you're attending the convention, feel free to drop by and check it out! - Gene
