Hi everyone!

First off, a big thanks to the 120 or so of you who attended our recent Spring Weekend at the Warehouse event. It was a ton of fun, as always! As you attendees saw, we have a bit more space than previously, so we have the flexibility to expand future Weekends without having to worry about turning players away due to space restrictions. I want to especially thank all of our office and warehouse team, who do the bulk of the work to make sure that attendees have a great time during the weekend. For those of you looking forward to the fall Weekend at the Warehouse, note that we have established the dates for October 17-20, 2019. We have a few more details in the Coming Events section below. I hope many of you can join us in October for several days of gaming fun!

Cartons, Boxes Everywhere! For those of you who attended the Weekend at the Warehouse, you would not believe what that big open space in the main room of the warehouse looks like now. Gone are the tables and chairs, and that area is filled on one side with just-arrived container after container of new games. The other contains stacks of packages ready to go out to our customers. Our office and warehouse crew are in the midst of turning those stacks of containers into individually prepared packages of the following products:

Commands & Colors: Medieval
Fields of Fire Volume II: With the Old Breed
The Last Hundred Yards
Holland '44 Mounted Maps

Hopefully, we will have all the P500 orders for these items shipped out within another week or so.

Digital Fort Sumter Releasing Today! Our friends at Playdek are releasing Mark Herman's Fort Sumter as a digital game on Steam (for Mac and PC), iOS, and Android today! Please see the Digital Games section below for details.

Tariffs and Pricing. The #1 question we've received online over the past week is about China tariffs and what impact they will have on GMT pricing. So here's our answer:  At present, we are not going to be making any pricing changes due to tariffs. If that determination changes in the future, we will let you know in advance

Now let's move on to the rest of today's news....

Check out the Rulebook for Ancient Civilizations of the Inner Sea As we've noted before, Chad Jensen worked with the Ancient Civs design/development team to craft this rulebook, and we could not be happier with the result. We think this is some of Chad's best work! You can see for yourself, as Rachel has posted a lo-res version of the rulebook on the Ancient Civilizations of the Inner Sea P500 page today. (For those of you looking for the solo rules, those are in the Playbook. We'll work on getting that online over the coming month.) Enjoy!

Testers wanted for MBT 4CMBG. We're Looking for NATO (Canadian and US) and Warsaw Pact aficionados. Needed are those experienced players willing to engage in head-to-head or individual sessions testing any of the 5 new scenarios (no one is expected to test them all) included with the MBT Expansion 4CMBG. It’s going to be a quick 4-week session, so the time commitment is limited. VASSAL is the only method that will be employed in testing. Slots are available for those interested in putting in the time and effort. Please contact Jim Day directly at jamesmday@aol.com for the whats and wherefores. - Jim Day

Games and Designers in the News! We've had unexpected and very positive exposure outside of our usual game channels over the past month:

First off, Forbes magazine did a great article on Sekigahara designer Matt Calkins. Congratulations Matt! I encourage you all to read the article, as what Matt has accomplished is really amazing.

Second, designer Ted Raicer has now officially "made it big," as there was a Jeopardy question on May 2nd that included "The epic board game Paths of Glory." So that was pretty cool, especially with a nice new deluxe version of the game available this year. My wife laughed at me, as I replayed the Jeopardy question several times on the DVR, explaining:  "I just want to hear Alex say those words 'the epic board game Paths of Glory' one more time!" Pretty cool.

Finally, Twilight Struggle got a nice plug in New York magazine recently. Their article was about the "Best Two Player Games, According to Experts," and noted that Twilight Struggle is " widely considered the best two-player game - and one of the best games of all time." That's high praise. Congratulations (again!) to designers Jason Matthews and Ananda Gupta!

The copies we have in stock have rules in both Mandarin and English. Here's the link to the Game Page on our site for more info and to order: The Dragon and The Cross

Here is a brief tease for P500 additions lining up in the coming months. Note that this is not a comprehensive list, so I will switch these up a bit from month to month. My previous hint of "An 18xx game set outside the US" referred to this month's new 1848: Australia. My previous hint of "An expansion for one of our CDGs" referred to this month's new Labyrinth: The Forever War, 2015-? Over the coming several months, I anticipate that we will add:
  • A new WWI game by a designer with one GMT design already published
  • A new expansion for one of our air games
  • A new 20th century strategic game
  • A new COIN series game

Coming This Week in InsideGMT.
Here's an update from Rachel on this week's upcoming InsideGMT articles:

Lots of great content this week on InsideGMT!

First up this week on InsideGMT, we published the fourth in a series of articles from COIN Series Developer Jason Carr discussing the design, ergonomics, and play of the brand new Arjuna solitaire system in Gandhi: The Decolonization of British India, 1917-1947. We highly recommend checking this series out! You can find all of the previous parts of the series here.

On the blog tomorrow, we will post a special photo essay from Ancient Civilizations of the Inner Sea Co-Designer Mark McLaughlin showing playtest gameplay from the recent Huzzah! convention in Maine. Very cool to see that three different generations of gamers were able to sit down and play this game together! Stay tuned for that article and while you are waiting, maybe take a look at the game's Rulebook that is now available on the ACIS P500 page.

Thursday on InsideGMT, you will see the final part of Francisco Colmenarez’s 10-part Normandy ’44 Campaign After Action Report. The previous nine parts can be found here. Francisco did a great job putting this AAR and if you are interested in learning more about Normandy ’44, this series is a great place to start!

That's all the articles going up this week on InsideGMT, but if you are looking for more to read, I encourage you to look at some of the article series we have finished recently:

I invite you to visit InsideGMT.com this week to check out the aforementioned articles (and more!) from our team of excellent InsideGMT contributors.

As noted previously, we're now giving you the status of a game inside our system in these updates, with a general estimate of what that means in terms of months until release. For very near-term games, those estimates are going to be very accurate. For the games just going into the art department or nearly there, we are giving you a range of times. Each month you will be able to follow progress as games get added and moved between pre-art, the art department, and the printer.

That said, here is our most current Tentative Production Schedule from Tony and Mark. Games with a ** following their entry are currently at the printer (we are a little more certain about scheduling on these).

Design Updates

Barbarossa: Army Group Center - Designer Vance von Borries

The Barbarossa portion of GMT’s East Front Series (EFS) is a set of games that covers the operations of the three Axis Army Groups in the Soviet Union from June through December, 1941. Each game portrays just one Army Group’s operations. The series  currently consists of six games: Crimea, Kiev to Rostov, Army Group North, Army Group Center, Army Group South, and Typhoon. More are planned.

This series began some years ago and is being updated. Many of you have waited a long time for this process to be complete. The good news has us at very near the end of the process for the Army Group Center game in this series. All that remains is final editing and then the game will enter the production line-up. The only bad news is that there are five games still waiting on this process.

But back to the good news. We have already started on the Army Group North and the Army Group South games. Part of that was to be sure rules for the first game would work for the rest. The big hurdle was to get the system’s standard rules correct. We have trimmed things out, added some other details, brought rules forward from Play Books, and sent other rules over to the Play Books. Perhaps every sentence in the standard rules has felt the editor’s red pen. All this is now done and all has been tested. We have also reviewed sources all the charts and tables. The OoBs and Order of Appearance have benefited from information newly available to the general public.

This is a detailed game series that we wish to keep accessible and playable. Each game will feel the same to veterans of the game series even if some details have changed. We have retained all the same scenarios, some short, others more encompassing. And we have certainly worked to allow these games to be linked into a giant campaign, a true monster in its reach. We know you will enjoy this series. - Vance von Borries

------------

Imperial Struggle - Designer Ananda Gupta

As some of you know, one of the chief difficulties in developing any game is playtesting. If, as a designer, one tests with a regular group, then that group can fall into both gameplay and rules-interpretation patterns, and miss things that fresh eyes will immediately notice. But if one tests with ad hoc volunteers, they typically don’t play more than once or twice, and as a result never get beyond surface understanding. This can leave problems lurking under the surface.

I’m therefore very fortunate that a number of dedicated testers have put Imperial Struggle through a pretty tough gauntlet. Each of them has pointed out new points of clarification for the rules, convenience and usability feedback, and of course gameplay issues. I’ll save their names for the credits, or for another update, but I am deeply grateful to this group for the attention and energy they’ve devoted to Imperial Struggle. (And I think they’re having a good time with the game, too… just watch out for them at early tournaments!)

As for progress: some of you saw Terry Leeds’ amazing first pass at the map back in the fall. There are some usability and gameplay tweaks, but Terry’s vision for the map is outstanding. Play aids and counters are all set for art to tackle next; the only thing I am actively working on right now is finishing the extended example of play for the Playbook, and tweaking cards to get the decision-making feel just right. - Ananda

------------

Wing Leader - Designer Lee Brimmicombe-Wood (via BGG)

With Victories and Eagles currently at the printers, progress is being made on the third expansion, Origins. We are 17 weeks into testing 26 scenarios and we're nearly at the 200 plays mark. We're almost at the polish stage on all the scenarios now.

Artwork has been making progress and lots of the new aircraft have master art. Despite only having weekends to work on this, I hope to be done on this task by the end of July. After that there's variant art and layout to be done, but the artwork should be complete by September.

Longer term, there's the Malta-set campaign to test. We completed the first big iteration of the campaign this week, with some tweaks to the cycling of the Allied fighters. Now we can commence the next round of testing.

We are aiming to be about 90% done on the expansion by the time it goes onto P500. (No vapourware, this!) We've arranged with Gene at GMT to put the expansion into pre-order in July.

After Origins goes live on P500, a lot will depend on how quickly we can get the numbers up. The game should be ready for print before the winter, but only you guys, with your pre-orders, will be able to determine how quick we can get it into print. - Lee
