  • Description

WING LEADER is an exciting new game system of large scale aerial combat in World War II. Based on a unique side-scrolling view, in which altitude is clearly visible, players can recreate the great air battles of the war.

This first volume focuses on the fighting from 1940 to 1942, with scenarios for the Battle of Britian, Malta, Coral Sea, Midway, North Africa, and Stalingrad. Future games will expand the system to the late war.

Players fly squadrons and flights, attempting to intercept raids or fend off marauding fighters in fast-playing games that take between 90 and 120 minutes.

Wing Leader takes a new look at aerial warfare, incorporating aircraft, altitude, and weather in a way never seen before!

This is one of my go to games. I love it. The level of detail, the art, the narration that evolves out of the scenarios is simply superb. It is a solitaire game first and two player game second - disregard the solo play rating on the box, it should be rated higher. Playing both sides to the best of your ability is the way to go and nothing is lost when you don't have the buddy to play the game with. There is a ton of gaming goodness in the box. I need around 15-20 min to set the game up (do yourself a favour and get two counter trays- one for all the wing and map markers and one for all the plane counters) and then play each scenario from 1 to 6 hours. I am a slow player, taking in the narration, the air drama that evolves in front of me so it is defenitely possible to play faster, especially when you have all the rules memorized in your head. Rulebook is 40+ pages but is really well done and if you do the scenarios in order you will learn the basics and then add additional rules as you progress through tbe scenarios so that the learning curve is not too steep. 2nd edition 2.2 rulebook has no errata to my knowledge but the newest 2.3 version that will be released with 2nd edition Supremacy does have a few new clarifications. Live rulebook is available but not really needed per see. I became so enamoredwith the game that I bought all the available expansions and preordered the 4th expansion and the 2nd edition of Supremacy. A ton of scenarios that each play differently and provide amazing historical insights is what awaits you in this polished and excellent game.
