Hi everyone!

As the holidays approach, I want to wish all of you Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a joyous New Year! I hope that your holiday gifts include plenty of games you've been wanting and that you get time to play a few amidst your time with family and friends.

Here at GMT, our office and warehouse crew is pushing hard to get all of the Next War Korea and Next War Supplement #2 items shipped out to you before we shut down for the Christmas holiday. After that, we're going to have a slower week after Christmas, as several of our team are taking vacations, and we're trying to get everyone some days off to rest and enjoy the holidays.

Shortly after the 1st, though, we'll be ramping back up, with lots of games charging and shipping in January (see the Charging and Shipping section below for more details). As you'll note from the Production Queue section, below, we have a lot of games at the Printers or nearing that stage, so the first half of 2020 is going to be full of new game shipments.

As I look back at 2019, I'm really proud of the many great products that our teams have created together. But the emotion that I feel most deeply is not pride but, rather, thankfulness. I feel like I have the best job in the world, getting to work with so many smart, talented, and creative people across all of our many teams. It's a great blessing to be friends with the people I work with and to share a creative environment that is full of mentoring, mutual encouragement, and a lot of laughter. As I tell designers often (usually they cringe a little when they hear it), "Because we're all working together in this cooperative enterprise where we're sharing knowledge and skills and helping each other improve with each product we create, these games we create today are the worst games we're ever going to make together!" It's a bit of a weird way to look at it, I know, and I am really proud of the quality of games we're creating today. But I'm also most excited by the possibilities of what we can create in the future as we all learn, grow, and more and more become masters of our crafts together.

I'm thankful for so many of you continuing to support us, enjoying our games, and often helping spread the word about our games in the larger gaming community. I so appreciate your encouragement and support, without which our shared cooperative enterprise would never have survived to celebrate its 29th year in 2019!

I can't leave 2019 without noting with deep sadness that it was a year of loss for us as well, both among our design teams and our customers. I'll miss Richard Berg and Chad Jensen especially, two really great friends who left lasting legacies in our hobby. (We're working on some "tribute projects" for them next year, as well. We'll give you details as they're ready.) And I know many of us will miss that special friend and gaming partner, known in a hobby senseonly to his or her gaming group, who passed this year as well. It's those great times around the game table with special friends that make this hobby so wonderful. Let's together raise a glass to those who've passed this year, with thankful hearts for the legacy of joy they left us.

As we wrap up 2019 with our final customer update and final batch of new P500 games, I invite your attention to the details in the sections below.

Recent Designer Interviews. Maurice Fitzgerald from Moe's Game Table took the time to do video interviews with four of us at Harold's SD Historical Convention in November. Moe asked good questions about the hobby and our upcoming games, so those of you who are looking for more info on games coming soon from the four of us will likely find these interesting. Links to the interviews are below:

Interview with Mark Herman
Interview with Volko Ruhnke
Interview with Morgane Guyon-Rety
Interview with Gene Billingsley

Also, the awesome guys at The Player's Aid published a couple of excellent print interviews recently.

Interview with All Bridges Burning designer VPJ Arponen

Interview with Ancient Civs of the Middle East team (designers Mark McLaughlin and Christopher Vorder Bruegge, and developer Fred Schachter

And for those of you who like podcasts, here are two really good recent interviews:

The folks at Chance of Gaming created an excellent podcast interview this week with Red Storm designer Doug Bush. The interview starts at the 1:14 mark and goes to 1:57.

Harold Buchanan interviewed A Time for Trumpets designer Bruno Sinigaglio on his Harold on Games podcast. Tons of cool AH and Bulge game history, in addition to the AtfT info, in this one.

Counter Trays and White Boxes Will Be Back in Stock in January. Quite a few of you have asked online when we'd have our Counter Trays and White Game Boxes back in stock. Well, we have another shipment of both coming in mid-late January. As soon as we have them, we'll add them back to the website and post a note in the "Recent Additions" section on our homepage. So keep your eye out for these in January and get them while they last!

------------
A Brexit Note. Many of you European customers have asked us about what would happen to our Euro-friendly shipping in a Brexit scenario. We want you to rest assured, no matter how the political drama plays out, that we are looking out for you. We are quite happy with Second Chance Games as our partner in this endeavor, and, even in a Brexit situation, we envision continuing to work with them for UK orders. Additionally, Tony already has a backup provider for the EU should Brexit eliminate Second Chance's ability to provide delivery services on the continent. So, like many of you, we're paying attention to the political situation in the UK, but our intent is to continue providing this Euro-friendly service to our customers, regardless of the political outcome.

Congress of ViennaFor those of you waiting for our next "Great Statesman Series" game, it's here! Designer Frank Esparrago has created a very cool 2-4 player Churchill-style game on the diplomatic, political, and military drama of the 1812-1814 period following Napoleon's disastrous retreat from Moscow. Frank and developer Dick Sauer assembled a very robust development team to craft this product, including series designer Mark Herman! For you solo players, the game also includes solitaire rules. Click the image/link for more details.

Red Flag Over Paris. Here's another fast-playing Lunchtime CDG set around a key event in French history. Using the base system of Mark Herman's Fort Sumter, designer Fred Serval adds a tapestry of card events and nail-biting decisions to allow the game to bring this under-gamed topic to life on our game tables. Developed by Luke Billingsley. Click the image/link to get more details.

For the People, 4th Printing (with new map)

Note that we've decided that it's time we gave the For the People game map a facelift. We're commissioning all new map art (approved by Mark Herman) to make this 4th edition a visual treat.

Here is a brief tease for P500 additions lining up in the coming months. Note that this is not a comprehensive list, so I will switch these up a bit from month to month. My November hints of "A new Lunchtime game" and "A new game in the Great Statesman Series" referred to this month's new Red Flag Over Paris and Congress of Vienna, respectively. Over the coming 1-6 months, I anticipate that we will add:
  • New content for fans of Unconditional Surrender
  • A "Bot Update Pack" for one of our COIN games
  • A boxed AND a ziplock expansion for one of our most popular 2019 releases
  • A new Lunchtime game from Jason Matthews
  • A power politics game set in the 19th century
  • A new 18xx title

To be involved, players must own, and have experience playing, the Last Hundred Yards game 1. All other materials necessary for playtesting will be provided. Playtesters will receive a new mission for playtest every two to three weeks. Each mission, whether played solo, face to face, or on Vassal, is to be played one or more times. Mounted Maps Category on our WebsiteWe've had quite a few customer requests to put a comprehensive listing of all of our Mounted Maps all in one place on our website. Mitch has been working on this and now has a Category page up that is functional and (as far as we know) has a complete list. It's not real pretty yet—Rachel and Mitch will be adding some art over the coming month—but it's working, and you can order from it now if you're looking for mounted maps. Here's the link:

Coming This Week in InsideGMT!

Here's an update from Rachel on this week's upcoming InsideGMT articles:

Lots of great stuff this week on InsideGMT! On Monday and Tuesday we published a total of four articles, so in case you missed them here is some info. First up on Monday, co-designer Jeff Horger wrote an article giving a strategic look at playing the Allies in Seas of Thunder Scenario 1, which covers the period between the start of the war and the invasion of France in 1940 and spans three game turns. If you would like to take a look at that article, it can be found here. Monday's second article was the first in a two part series from first-time designer Fred Serval diving into the historical context for his upcoming design on the Paris Commune, Red Flag Over Paris. On Tuesday, we published the sixth in a series of "Meet the Civilizations" articles from Mark McLaughlin, this time highlighting the Akkadian civilization in Ancient Civilizations of the Middle East. We have a few more of these "Meet the Civilizations" articles on the way, so make sure to look for them every Tuesday on InsideGMT in the coming weeks. Second on Tuesday was first-time designer Fred Serval's second article in the historical context series for Red Flag Over Paris. Both of his articles are great reads, so I highly recommend checking them out. On InsideGMT today, we posted the final installment of Kevin McPartland’s article series for Banish the Snakes discussing some of the different historical characters that you can play in the game. In this week’s article, he discusses Columba. Enjoy! Finally, Friday on InsideGMT we will publish the first article in a new example of play series from Ancient Civilizations of the Middle East developer Fred Schachter. This first installment of the example of play will cover the game setup through the growth phase, so look out for that!

I invite you to visit InsideGMT.com this week to check out the aforementioned articles (and more!) from our team of excellent InsideGMT contributors.

Bellota Con III (Spain) - January 23-26, 2020

Mark Herman, Volko Ruhnke, and Luke Billingsley will all be in Badajoz, Spain January 23-26 to support our Spanish gamer community at Bellota Con III. Volko attended this event last year and came back with glowing reviews of both the gaming and the great gamers at the convention. We invite you to come to Spain in a couple months and help us celebrate our hobby with our Spanish friends at Badajoz!

Andy Lewis will once again be hosting our annual GMT East weekend in White Plains New York this coming March. Especially for you east coasters, this is a great opportunity to come together for a weekend of gaming (GMT games and others are welcome) with Andy (one of the GMT principals) and several of our designers and developers. Here are a few pics from last year's event, courtesy of Mark Herman:

Spring 2020 Weekend at the Warehouse: April 23-26, 2020.

Our Weekends at the Warehouse in April and October are some of my favorite times of the year, as that's when over 100 of our friends, plus usually 10-20 gamers who are about to become our friends, join us here in Hanford for four days of gaming fun. This past October, we had about 115 gamers from as far away as Europe (Eindhoven) and South America (Caracas)! As always, it was great to catch up with so many of you and to meet some new friends.

We do now have dates for our Spring 2020 Weekend, so come join us on April 23-26, 2020, for our 39th (!) GMT Weekend at the Warehouse! We'll spend the better part of 3 1/2 days, often long into the night, playing your favorite GMT (and non-GMT, if you'd prefer) games. This is mostly an open gaming event, although we do have tournaments from time to time.

Registration is $40, which we don't charge until the week of the Weekend. We're limited to about 125 attendees for this event, so if you'd like to attend, please contact the office ladies via online chat from the GMT website or at 800-523-6111 to reserve your spot.

Come join us in April 2020 for tons of gaming fun!

Project Updates

Apocalypse Road- Designer Jeff Horger

Attention Racers of the Apocalypse! for the past couple of months Mark and I have been working with the artist for Apocalypse Road, Nichole Balsley. She has been doing some incredible things with the game and it is going to look fantastic. Just to spark your appetite, here are some of the bits and pieces that will be in the game.

Sample Car Images

We are in the home stretch now on the art assets and soon it will be in Mark's hands to finish the layout and then... well, then we race! - Jeff

------------
Barbarossa: Army Group Center - Designer Vance von Borries

The team has been very busy with proof reading. This has meant a number of rules challenges. We have answered these questions and maybe more as we endeavor to keep them consistent with the original rules edition and revisions to date. I posted a rules draft to Consimworld a few months ago to allow all to view the revised work. The result was that, yes, we had a couple more questions that meant some more rewriting for clarification, and we have found things on our own since then. Overall though, there was praise for increased rules clarity. So, the process works. We also have a graphics person hard at work on counters and map and, because it all flows through him, we occasionally stand in line behind other projects. Regardless, he has produced a lot. We are at the stage of map proofreading and some other wrapping up. All the work is attractive. We are sure you will be pleased.

From here we are pushing forward on work on the Army Group North game. New OoB material has been provided with more to come. The naval rules have been separated over to a comprehensive module. We are already engaged in playtesting. After AGN we will push forward on Army Group South and then the grand return to Moscow with a new Typhoon game. Typhoon will feature an Inset map for Moscow, and we are looking at extending the game deeper into the winter of 41/42. - Vance

------------
Roads to Leningrad - Designer Vance von Borries

Although this game has not received much public attention on P500, you may want to take another look. My local crack playtest team and I have given the “Roads” system a fresh look to reduce the number of needed die rolls, the so-called “fiddly” nature of the system that a handful of critics (about 4 or 5 out of 254 reviews on BGG) have slapped on it–I do indeed pay attention to even small numbers of critics when they bother to say why. To remove this from the game system, we re-worked the activation system to be far more interactive and quicker moving and cut back on the “coordination” die rolls. Also coming in, we will have some additional research material for the Soltsy and Staraya Russa subjects. That means you will see a few counter changes and counter-mix changes, not radical, but enough. When you add a few map changes to be consistent with the Moscow game, we really do have a full second edition Roads to Leningrad, not just a revision packet. We anticipate using his revised approach in a future Stalingrad game. - Vance

------------
Wing Leader Series - Designer Lee Brimmicombe-Wood (via BGG)

(1) Wing Leader: Origins (Expansion Nr.3). So, November was a busy month. No sooner had the Origins pre-orders tipped over 500, but I was given the go-ahead to push it into print. If this seems swift compared to other GMT product, remember that I deliver print-ready files to the publisher, so there’s no lengthy or costly production process to go through. Origins is now off at the printer. I have no dates for release, so keep an eye on GMT’s official channels. Some time in Q1 would be my best guess.

(2) Expansion Nr.4. We’ve already begin work on the fourth expansion, the working title for which is Wing Leader: Falcons, though that name is likely to change. We have spent the last week sifting 48 scenario submissions down to a final list of 21. A good number of those scenarios are the kind of crossover battles that we could not do before with the early- and late-war split in Wing Leader products. The Kursk campaign is almost complete and a draft book has been laid out. Basically, we’re ready to start testing, though I’ll be giving the test team a rest over the holidays with a view to commencing playtest in the new year.

That’s all, folks! - Lee
