Hi everyone!

I hope you are all well. With winter upon us, I hope you are all getting some time to stay inside and play some boardgames.

Let's begin this month with some cool new "free stuff" for you WWII tactical players:

The Last Hundred Yards Basic Training - The 2nd Printing of Mike Denson's innovative tactical small-unit combat game just started shipping this week, and this is the perfect time to get into the series. For new players, or returning players who need a refresher, Mike worked with his team (David Reynolds and Andrea Cantatore) to put together a FREE pdf Basic Training Guide for The Last Hundred Yards that walks you through everything you need to know to play. Not only that, but there are 4 training missions included! The training guide can be used with Volumes 1, 2, or 3 of The Last Hundred Yards, but if you have Volume 2 or 3 you will need to download and print the accompanying maps for the scenarios. Enjoy!

Hey everyone! Kyle here, brand manager at Playdek. I hope you all had a great President’s Day weekend. We are excited to let you know that we will be releasing Twilight Struggle: Red Sea on March 28th! It will be available on PC and Mac through Steam, and on mobile via the iOS App Store and Google Play for Android. Twilight Struggle has clearly been one of the most popular and respected GMT games for a long time, so being able to expand on that world in the digital space with TS: Red Sea is a thrill. Jason Matthews’s fantastic design really brings this unique corner of the Cold War to life.

What I love about TS: Red Sea is that it takes the familiar gameplay experience from the parent game and introduces new elements such as Flashpoint Countries, which add a whole new dynamic to the player’s method of making decisions. With TS: Red Sea coming to digital, you will be able to play against Jason Carr’s BOT design for the solo game experience, against the competitive A.I., and challenge other players online with our asynchronous system.

On February 28th, you will be able to Wishlist and Pre-Order TS: Red Sea on Steam, the App Store, and the Google Play Store, so please mark that in your calendars. The Steam Community forum will also be open at that time for everyone to start discussing strategies and engage with other players. We can’t wait to get this fantastic game in your hands! Thanks! - Kyle

"We Built This City": New 3-Player Variant for Urban Sprawl. Here's more cool "free stuff" for those of you who enjoy Chad Jensen's games. I love it when one of our designers likes another designer's game enough to create some additional content for it. That's what happened here. Cross Bronx Expressway designer Non-Breaking Space loves Chad Jensen's games and has created a well-thought-out Variant Scenario for Urban Sprawl. He has also written an article in Inside GMT with links to everything you need to play this new variant for Chad's Urban Sprawl

The Article is here and the pdf file with all the details for the Variant Scenario is here.

Enjoy this new variant! And many thanks to Non-Breaking Space for taking the time and care to create it!

Follow Along with a new The US Civll War Team Game. This is a really cool and easy way to learn and improve your play of The US Civil War. The game will be between Jim Dauphinais, developer of the game, as the Confederate Player and a Union Team consisting of Bob Prince, Bill Cooper, Fred Finkenbinder, Miguel Escandon, Gilbert Collins, and Jim Bailey. Thanks to Jim for setting this up and to all of you who are playing for allowing us to "look over your shoulders" and learn from your game play.

You can follow the game on a BoardGameGeek thread here.

In addition to following the game through postings made in the above BGG thread, for those who would like to follow along in detail, the VASSAL logs for the game are being posted to a dropbox link. The link is provided in the BGG thread.

Commands and Colors Reprints: We're closing in on the deadline for sending these to the printer on March 15, 2023, and we're going to print quantities based on the orders we have on that date. So, one last time, here are the details and pricing information for this one-time printing. If you want copies, please get your orders in before March 15! - Gene

We are committed to the long-term viability of the Commands & Colors Napoleonics series, despite the massive rise we've seen of late in the cost of wooden blocks. To make the games more affordable, we will in the future consolidate the first five volumes into two volumes to cut duplication of blocks in the four army volumes, but also reduce the number of charts, counters, and terrain tiles needed. The same will be done with volumes 6 and 7 (C&C Napoleonics Generals, Marshals & Tacticians and C&C Napoleonics – The Epic Battles).

Before we take this step, in fairness to those who have started to collect the first seven volumes, or who want to collect the first seven volumes, we have obtained limited outside financing in order to re-issue a limited run of these first seven volumes. Retail prices on all will be raised. P500 prices for the two expansions that were already on P500 will remain unchanged. The level of the orders received will determine how many copies of each volume are reprinted.

C&C Napoleonics base game                                    P500    63       Retail    90

C&C Napoleonics Spanish Army Expansion             P500    52       Retail    75

C&C Napoleonics Russian Army Expansion              P500    45       Retail    75

C&C Napoleonics Austrian Army Expansion             P500    45        Retail    75

C&C Napoleonics Prussian Army Expansion            P500    52        Retail    75

C&C Nap Generals, Marshals & Tacticians              P500    49        Retail    70

C&C Napoleonics – the Epic Battles                        P500    55        Retail    80

As of March 15th, 2023, all seven volumes will be sent to the printer, so time is of the essence.

Two other C&C games already on P500 will also be sent to the printer on March 15. The retail prices have been raised, but the P500 prices remain unchanged. The same conditions apply. The more P500 orders received, the greater the number reprinted. The two games are:

  • C&C Samurai Battles                      P500    59        Retail    95
  • C&C Medieval base game              P500    55        Retail    90

GMT One - Jason Carr. Here in Colorado, we've gotten a few big snowstorms this past month—great for staying in and playing more board games!

Red Dust Rebellion has been taking up nearly all of my time lately; I've been deep diving in the rules and strategy. Kai Jensen has been invaluable in clarifying the edge cases in the rules and helping to reformat them to an easier-to-digest format. This coming month we will work on solving a few remaining issues with the solo system; we expect that we'll need some solo testers as early as next month, so stay tuned for that update.

In addition to Red Dust Rebellion, we started art and layout for Fields of Fire Deluxe Edition and are putting the final touches on the learn to play materials that will come with the game. As promised, we will post those online once they're ready so that everyone who already owns Fields of Fire can take advantage of them as well.

Of course there's always more happening than I can cover in my update; make sure to check out the updates from our designers and developers below, and watch this space for updates and playtesting opportunities in the coming months.

Enjoy the games!

Jason

New P500 Additions. We have four exciting, new products to add to our P500 list this time.

------------
With both Combat Commander: Europe and Combat Commander: Mediterranean currently out of stock, we've decided that it's time to create one master core product for the European/Med. theater games so that players won't have to keep hunting for one or the other every time one title goes out of stock. This is actually how Chad and Kai wanted the game to be packaged to begin with—it just took us a while to get here. Also, Kai has added in a new countersheet and updated scenarios for Minor Nations to the Master Edition. Note that long-term going forward, this will be the only core SKU for these two titles (you'll still be able to buy the Battle Packs of your choice separately). It will be much less expensive than buying both games (and Minor Nations) separately for new players or for those who want to replace their worn-out versions of these much-played games.

For those of you who want/need both CC: Europe and CC: Med or just want the new Master Edition, Kai has it very nearly ready for production. Please order it soon at the P500 links below so we can get this title back in stock for all of you who want to play.

But we realize that some of you already have either CC: Europe or CC: Med and you already have a P500 order in for the one you still need (currently 305 orders for CC: Europe and 420 orders for CC: Med). We don't want you to have to buy the whole new Master Edition if you don't want to, so we are going to honor existing P500 orders for both titles. We will print them along with the Master Edition as a one-time printing to take care of all of you who have one or the other on order.

For you players who already have both CC: Europe and CC: Med and just want the new minor nations counters, we have created a small Minor Nations Battle Pack (listed and linked below) so that you don't have to order a whole new Master Edition just to get the minor nations content. We'll also print it when we print the Master Edition. We're thinking at this point that it will also be a limited printing, since it will be in the Master Edition long-term. So, if you want the Minor Nations Battle Pack, please order that one as soon as possible, too.

We're excited to bring you another cool 21st century power-projection, global competition CDG. Vez has designed a CDG that our dev teams are excited about, and, with a built-in solitaire system, those of you (like me) who play mostly solo can also enjoy this new CDG.

New P500 Reprint Additions. None this time.

------------
P500 Upgrades/Mounted Maps/Accessories.

We've heard those of you asking for the option to order mounted maps for Mark Simonitch's North Africa '41, so we're adding an "11th hour" option to get them. The game is going to the printer shortly, so we're going to have to know how many mounted maps to print within the next month. So if you want one, please order right away as these will be printed along with the game. As usual, it will be a limited printing based on the # of orders we get.

P500 Removals. None this time

Here is a brief tease for P500 additions lining up in the coming months. This month's new Combat Commander: Europe/Med. Master Edition was teased last month as "A master edition multi-pack for one of our best-selling games" and the new Order & Opportunity was highlighted last month as "A 1-4 player CDG of early 21st century geopolitics." Note that this is not a comprehensive list (nor will I preview EVERY game we have planned), so I will switch these up a bit from month to month. Over the coming 1-6 months, I anticipate that we will add:
  • A new post-1970s operational combat game set in Europe
  • A multipack of games set in South America
  • A new Twilight Struggle theater game (somewhat like TS:Red Sea)
  • A new GBACW game

Harold Buchanan and the SDHist team have announced their next online convention: SDHistCon 2023 Spring Deployment, to take place on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

This year, the event opens in Europe and closes in California in the evening. As always with SDHist conventions, there will be designer-led gaming events, seminars, and more. Volko Ruhnke, Mark Herman, Jason Matthews, Fred Serval, and many other GMT designers will be there teaching their games. Registration is open now, with events under development.

------------
GMT East, March 31st - April 2nd.

For Potential Attendees
(From Event Host Andy Lewis)
If you haven't attended before, I hope you will. Let me give you a little more information about what the convention is and isn't so you know before committing. There are no tournaments or scheduled events (except the Sunday morning door prizes). It is an open gaming convention. Most people try to schedule games ahead of time through CSW (the topic is under "Conventions"). It was suggested last year to have a BGG entry or a discord for scheduling as well. I will work with some who volunteered to set that up as well. You don't have to schedule ahead of time, but at least some time slots can be better.

In addition, normally we have current GMT designers or potential designers there with prototypes for playtesting. These aren't pre-arranged. Last year we had Triumvir and Zheng He as two of the playtests.

It will be easier to find opponents for GMT games, but you can play published games from other manufacturers if you want. Even Euros find their place. I know last year there was at least one Nemesis.

Returning Attendees: Unfortunately I will not be able to provide snacks, sodas, nor coffee as in past years. The gaming space will be the equivalent of the two big rooms (Larchmont and Pleasantville). We do not have the space which was the store and snack room. With this in mind, there may not be the ability to have games set-up and not "actively" being played i.e. going for meals is acceptable. :-)

To register for this event, use this online registration form on the GMT website. Register by March 4 to get an event T-shirt. Note that as of February 23, over half the registration slots are full. Don't delay and miss out!

Spring 2023 Weekend at the Warehouse - April 20-23, 2023. We had a great time with about 125 attendees this past October. It was great to see so many long-time friends and to meet a few new ones! Thanks to all of you who attended and made the event so much fun!

We are now in final planning stages for our Spring 2023 Weekend, so come join us on April 20-23, 2023, for our 42nd (!) GMT Weekend at the Warehouse! We'll spend the better part of 3 1/2 days, often long into the night, playing your favorite GMT (and non-GMT, if you'd prefer) games. This is mostly an open gaming event, although we do have tournaments from time to time.

Gaming starts around 8 each morning and goes until the last player leaves—or when players collapse from exhaustion in the wee hours of the morning. :-)

Wilderness War and Nevsky on Rally the Troops! In case you have not yet checked out the Rally the Troops! website, you can play Wilderness War there in a fabulous on-line implementation that enforces all the rules for you! The site is cost- and ad-free, a labor of love by Tor Andersson, who worked intensively with Volko Ruhnke to ensure that Rally the Troops! Wilderness War functionality is correct and official.

Now Tor is working with Volko and Levy and Campaign series developer Christophe Correia to bring Nevsky to Rally the Troops! in a couple months or so. Volko tells us that the play experience is amazing. And it will even include Nevsky Second Edition improvements. I can’t wait to see it added to the site!

New Print 'n Play Variant for Red Flag Over Paris. Artist Donal Hegarty & designer Fred Serval have released a free expansion for Red Flag Over Paris to celebrate the game's recent CSR and SDHistcon awards. The expansion contains two elements:

  • • First is the Censorship Variant, which works with the base game, providing more control to the players over their hands and a new layer of decision-making around whether to take the Initiative. It also significantly decreases the odds of drawing a hand of only 1 Op Strategy Cards.
  • Second is a set of 10 new Strategy Cards covering events and people left aside in the original design. Those new cards add even more historical flavor and some variability for experienced players.

This new content is available now on BGG for print & play (link below), and will also be included in the #37 issue of c3i Magazine. We hope you'll enjoy it!

Coming This Week on InsideGMT!

Here's an update from Rachel on this week's upcoming InsideGMT articles:

Lots of great stuff this week on InsideGMT!

First up on Wednesday, we published a great article from Iron Storm designer Edgar Fenollar giving an overview of the game’s combat system, which is something that a few people have been asking about and we don’t expect to change significantly before publication. You can find that article here.

Today on InsideGMT, you will see a great article from designer VPJ Arponen discussing the historical setting and some of the mechanics in his new game Order & Opportunity. Enjoy!

And in case you missed it earlier this month, we published the second in a series of articles from Imperial Eagles designer Chris Janiec answering the first question that anyone who’s familiar with the Down in Flames series might ask about the gamewhich is, "What aircraft do we get in Imperial Eagles?” In this second article, Chris discusses the Allied aircraft that will be in the game. If you'd also like to read his first article about Japanese aircraft, you can find that here.

Have a great week!
-Rachel B

Developer Update: Ken Kuhn, Staff Developer

February has been a very busy month and an exciting time for the projects that I've been working on as things are getting very close to being ready for the printer. Prime Minister's Core Rulebook and Clockwork Rulebook have been a huge layout undertaking, but they are nearly done and absolutely stunning. Prime Minister's table experience will definitely have been worth the wait.

The most progress award for the month goes to The Plum Island Horror. As you can see from the art previews this month, TPIH is coming along very nicely. As of writing this Terry has nearly finished all of the component art and will be turning his attention to laying out the Rulebook and Reference guide soon.

Finally, the CDG Solo System Pack #2 is nearly ready to be sent to proofreaders, and hopefully, that will be ready to get in the printer line by the end of March. It's so fun to see all of these projects coming to life with amazing art. I can't wait for them to hit your tables! - Ken
