Playing Twilight Struggle
in the "World's Best War Games" Invitational Tournament

It’s official. The World Series of Board Games has chosen Twilight Struggle as one of four “World’s Best War Games” for the inaugural War Game Invitational tournament at the World Series of Board Gaming in Las Vegas this coming September.

That means that people from around the world will be playing Twilight Struggle, in Las Vegas, this September. If you can’t come, you’ll want to watch some of it on YouTube—it’s a great event!

There are prizes, too. The biggest is for the winner, which starts at $1,000 if there are 16 players and goes all the way to $5,000 if they hit 64.

Check It Out

Here’s what the tournament director Nick Benedict said about Twilight Struggle:

“We reviewed literally hundreds of games for balance, clean rules design, ability to use multiple different strategies, replay value, and, most of all, fun. In our collective opinion, Twilight Struggle is clearly one of the best wargames ever designed."

You can learn to play Twilight Struggle in 15-30 minutes (or less, if you use Playdek's Digital Edition). Every card play and decision is tension-filled with exciting possibilities, and the USA plays very differently from the USSR. Do you favor high-risk coups or do you slowly build influence? Try to dominate the third world or make a play for Europe and win the game outright? Or try to maneuver your opponent into accidentally starting World War 3?

And how fun is it to replay the Cold War? From the Berlin Blockade to Reagan screaming about the Evil Empire, from Che Guevara to superspy Aldrich Ames, Twilight Struggle has it all!

As of now, there are a few VIP early bird tickets left—use coupon code VIP to get $20 off when you get your ticket.

Sign up for the event today to test your skill against other Twilight Struggle enthusiasts from around the world! And, for those of you who would prefer a non-tournament experience, the World Series of Boardgaming event offers tickets for their Open Gaming Event (run by the folks at Dice Tower West) and entry to the Exhibitor Hall, as well. Check the info under #6 on the WSBG Site to see all the attendance options.

I hope you get to attend and enjoy this big hobby event! As always,

Enjoy the games!

Gene

P.S.The website can be a little bit confusing—to play Twilight Struggle you need to get either the War Gaming Invitational $297 ticket (before the coupon) or the $697 Combo Pass. Each of those tickets includes entrance into the full 6-Day World Series of Boardgaming Event as well as specific tournament entry.

P.P.S.  Even if you don’t play Twilight Struggle now, there is plenty of time to get good before September. There's a digital edition of the game (that plays exactly like the boardgame, but much faster!)  on Steam or iOS or Android, and with it you can practice new strategies solo against an AI or against online opponents around the world.
