1831, For Our Freedom and Yours
Received yesterday, from the small but prolific Polish publisher - Strategemata. 1831 cover the battle of Grochow which saw the Polish army defeat a superior sized Russian force. The box contains: A 33" x 23" (satin finish) map 423 9/16" (gloss) counters/markers Historical reinforcements schedule/chart 4 Scenarios (Introductory, historical and 2 x Alternative) 12 page rulebook which includes a page of charts and 2 pages of historical narrative. 1D10
The artwork is simple yet attractive and clear.
The die-cutting is reminiscent of Legion's Easy Punch Counters - this has pros (they punch really easily and have negligible nibs (x2)) and cons (they punch themselves in transit - about 15% of mine had left the sprue).
A nicely presented obscure topic from a publisher who is quickly becoming established. The game is available direct at $52 from http://strategemata.pl/en/. Knoble Knight in the US also carries their games - though this particular title is not yet in stock.

New for me are Festung Budapest and Wing Leader Supremacy. Too big ones I have been waiting for from two opposing styles but both will be well played.
Happy days

Postie just handed me off two parcels, and while the missus is out too. Hexasim's new Austerlitz game looks just as good as their Waterloo effort, which shamefully didn't get as many plays as I hoped. The new CounterFact mag's quality has improved over each issue, especially the games. One quibble: no game content in the articles for this issue. Hope they're not going down the Decision road, not interested in pop history from a game company magazine. Hopefully the game will make up for it, which sure looks interesting. Plan on giving it a run to find out.

Hexasim's new Austerlitz game looks just as good as their Waterloo effort Bastard. Was hoping to take that one down to CanCon tomorrow.

Andy, how thick are those counters? Their initial games had very thin ones.

Hi Paul,
Under 1/16", perhaps a tad over 1mm. They are certainly not thick counters but they are sturdy enough. The fact that they are large may make them look thinner than they are.

Out of the Wrapper - Campaigns of Napoleon
Bought in the CanCon Bring and Buy for the princely sum of Au$20, this is in astonishingly pristine condition for a 40 year old game.
Used to own this, and remembered only that neither Madrid nor Moscow are on the map. Bought it because it introduces the FERT (Fire Exchange Results Table) which would grace Prados's later ACW and Waterloo games.
A couple of observations. If CanCon is a guide, the price of old games is in the process of collapsing. I saw Korsun Pocket for Au$80, and virtually any S&T, Command or Wargamer mag, unpunched, for Au$10.
And in a convention of 1000s, there were maybe 30 grogs playing ASL and hex and counter games. I'm not one to talk, I played Netrunner. But 10 years ago I was playing ASL and 5 years ago Devil's Cauldron...

I saw Korsun Pocket for Au$80, and virtually any S&T, Command or Wargamer mag, unpunched, for Au$10. There were lots (and I mean lots) of wargames for second hand sale - old and more recent alike and for modest prices. More than I have ever seen. I picked up 2nd Fleet (VG) for AUD20 (about USD12).

It was awesome. I bought Art of Siege for only A$80, Successors (GMT) for only A$30, Pacific War (VG) for only A$40, and Red Winter for only A$45, and about three dozen more games. Everything was super cheap because there is only a small market for board wargames, but I think that has always been the case.

It's the end of the world, at least for my niche of the hobby - 1 week reading the rules, 2 weeks punching and clipping, 8 hours setting up, 16 hours getting 10% of the way through, 2 hours putting away, and 40 years reminiscing about how great the game is.
I'll miss it. :)

Bought it because it introduces the FERT (Fire Exchange Results Table) which would grace Prados's later ACW and Waterloo games. I picked up a copy a while ago (mine might have been $30) for exactly the same re4ason. I suspect that 2nd hand market prices are dropping markedly worldwide, but even more so down here - there's probably a very hight number of 2nd hand games available for what is a tiny (and ageing) market.

Blood in the Fog from Hollandspiele. The Battle of Inkerman. Half standard-sized map (in two pieces), mapsheet and a counter sheet and a half of really thick, laser-cut counters, and other assorted goodies. Fairly short rulebook with an interesting hook or two. We'll see how this goes as it's next up

Prices are far below what is seen in the States, PLEASE correct me if I am wrong and send the links.

Discovered what happened to my copy of Austerlitz: 1805. I didn't order it.
So before I do...what does the hive mind think about Napoleon again Europe?
(The astute amongst you will recognise this is as a "spend $100 to save $5 on shipping stratagem.")
