CHS has now released 57th Panzer Korps. This game was designed by Jim Zoldak.

The game portrays the 57th Panzer Korps attempt to relieve 6th Army, trapped at Stalingrad.

Each hex represents 1.2 mile from side to side. Each turn represents 12 hours. Unit counters represent regiments, battalions, or companies. The game lasts for 24 turns starting on Game Turn 1, December 12th, and ending after the Soviet player turn of Game Turn 24, December 24th.

The game comes in a ziplock and has cover sheet, rulebook, 4 piece map, two counter sheets (mounted but not die cut) and a play aid card.

Price is $28.50 US, this includes airmail postage. If you are interested in a copy please contact (topkat@chariot.net.au) me and I will send you a Paypal request for funds.

The map is Edmund's I take it? Very nice.

Yes, it is another one that Edmund has done for us. I very much like his work, he did that BfK map for Banana Games as well. He has also done the map and counter art for my Operation Compass game. He's a busy fellow now :)

I have even added the CHS version of 57th on BGG and listed Edmund in the credits.

PS - Still working on setting up those pesky Japanese!

Quick question regarding Road to St. Die: is the same system used in any of your other games? Asking here as I don't see a topic on CSW about it.

CJ Harding - May 23, 2019 7:00 pm (#212 Total: 388)

Hi Pete,

Parroy Forest shares a lot of the subsystems, I would say they are similar.

Not all CHS games have folders however if you have a question or comments on any of the CHS games I designed, posting here is fine.

The games CHS published that were designed by Markus and Jim do all have their own folders.

Regards

Chris

Looks good!

Unless there are air assets that have limited range, the infinity range symbol shown on all the planes above is not needed.

The color of the hills may be too similar to the other hexes to work well for me so I am thankful for the hill symbol in-hexes.

Can you show a map sample that includes both wadis and escarpments?

That would be the designer's call. :-)

The in-hex symbol is the primary indicator. I changed the hex color to serve as back-up if the symbol is covered by a unit. I suppose I could move the symbols to one of the vertices.

Can you show a map sample that includes both wadis and escarpments?

Certainly.

Hi Edmund,

Sent you an e-mail overnight.

Hi Daniel

Escarpments are impassable with no combat allowed across them, Wadis are +1 to movement and attacking units are halved, So important players can distinguish between the two. Will take your comments on board.

Thanks

Chris

Here's the map sample with a different style of wadi. I think it should be distinct enough from the escarpment that they won't be confused.

40th Panzer Korps Optional Rules, errata and clarification.

Some optional rules I had planned to put on the webpage but forgot

Soviet Artillery units that have moved can no longer support Soviet units in Entrenchments when defending against a Hasty Attack.

The Soviets can build Entrenchments during the game. An Infantry or Engineer unit with 3 SPs or more that does not move for two consecutive turns and does not start adjacent to an enemy unit, nor have an enemy unit move adjacent can build an Entrenchment.

In a Prepared or Hasty attack the German player can designate 2 Armour companies from the same Battalion as a "Force" and can assign one Artillery unit to that "Force". If at least one of the tanks in that force survives Defensive fire then the artillery unit can still fire along with the remaining tank.

Clarification: Artillery Fired markers come off at the end of the Game Turn, an artillery unit can only fire (non defensively) once a game turn. But can fire defensively as many times as its hex is attacked.

Errata: Play Aid Card - The TEC and map legend don't agree on City/Town vs Town/Village labels. On the TEC it should be Town (1 Shift Left), City (2 shift left) new copies of 40th PK have correct Charts.

CHS has just released Operation Compass.

This is a solitaire game where the player primarily takes on the role of commanding the Allied forces during the first 4 days of the campaign in Egypt that saw the Italian forces forced out of that country in 1940. The Italian forces are managed by the player in accordance with the rules. The game is not designed for two players. Each hex represents 3 miles from side to side. Each turn represents half a day. Unit counters represent battalions, or Regiments/Reinforced Regiments.

Designer - Chris Harding,

Map and Counter Art – Edmund Hudson.

The game comes with one A3 full colour map, rule book and two small counter sheets that are mounted but not die cut. Price is $18.90 US and this includes airmail postage world wide. If you are interested please either send payment to my PayPal account (topkat@chariot.net.au) or e-mail me and I will send a PayPal request to you.

THAT really looks interesting. Is it based on any pre-existing solitaire system? And I'm heartened to not see any mention of cards.

CJ Harding - Sep 16, 2019 8:10 pm (#221 Total: 388)

Hi Michael,

The solitaire system I used is not really based on any other system. I haven't played many solitaire games really (Ambush, Iwo Jima and a Vietnam game from 3W), I did look at a few others (borrowed some rule books to read through) but that's about it.

Chris and anyone else -- having just sent my $ to Chris for Operation Compass, I'm wondering what the best way to cut out these counters is?

In the past, I've used "Fiskars" brand scissors and, while they work, the counters end up being slightly different sizes (due to my inability to cut completely straight lines). I've tried exacto knives and rulers in the past, but the effort there didn't seem worth it.

Is there any "easy" way to do this? A better brand/model of scissors that will get me a cleaner, sharper cut?

Any ideas would be appreciated! Grazie.

I use the fiskar cutter like in the picture. But if you are only doing occasional DTP then hard to justify the price. There are other cutters with roller blades, I would think that they would be okay as well.

I started off in the early days using a stanley knife and steel rule. Its important though to have the counters on a clean piece of board (wood) and keep them from sliding as you cut.

Luckily in Op Compass there are only 140 odd counters so not too bad.

the counters are double sided but the information on the back I have tried to keep with plenty of margin so not as likely to chop off something important.

I've always used one of those 'healable' green plastic mats they made for cutting fabric, and they work better than a wooden board. I'm finally getting to the point where I'll need to replace, but it's served its time in Hell!

I do have one of the green plastic mats, I think I got it a few years ago after reading about them here on CSW, maybe one of your posts Rick :)

I found that for cutting sticky labels before mounting them on card stock they were a bit too spongy, I prefer doing that on a piece of wood with a sheet of cardboard, usually about 200 GSM (the stuff my printer supplies as separators for the material they provide me). I have not used it for cutting out counters as I have the fiskar.

Last night while doing the latest batch of counters for Op Comp, I decided to change the blade in my stanley knife, I can tell you now that made a big difference!

Also Noble Knight placed an order for copies of 40th, 57th, Op Compass and Parroy Forest (which has been long out of print but I was able to do a deal and get a small number printed). So that was the good news, but the games are being shipped surface mail, to keep the cost down for the package so won't be in the USA until December, but hopefully just in time for Xmas!
